The Car Hauler
History: A Long-Awaited Deal
This 1975 Dodge W300 holds the record for the longest purchase timeline to date. Initially found for sale in 2011 on an online forum, it was located in Jamestown, California. It took over five months to solidify the deal and have the truck delivered to its next long-term home in Provo, Utah, joining Zac's collection in 2012.
The truck had lived a long life with its previous owners, Mike and his wife Chris, since around 1991. At some point, the truck was yellow, but was later painted red and graphics were added, with Mike and Chris's names etched into history on the doors. Mike passed away suddenly in 2007, leaving the Car Hauler to his wife. Chris was happy to see the truck go to a home with other Dodge trucks to keep it company. At the time of purchase, Zac's collection was around five total. Today, that number might have a zero behind it.
Present: The Reliable Workhorse
Since joining the collection, this truck has been a reliable and enjoyed member. A new set of tires was a must right when we purchased it in 2012. Over the years, we've done needed upgrades like replacing motor and transmission case mounts and installing a 4-core aluminum Champion radiator, creating a cross-flow solution while maintaining the factory A/C. To this date (February 2026), the A/C system remains all intact and present, but we have not attempted to test it. We also upgraded the original Desert Star winch on the bed to a modern one, though the Ramsey winch in the front bumper remains original.
Aside from those maintenance items, we haven't had to do much besides filling it up with gas. It has been a pleasure to own, and as you can see, we have hauled and used it for all sorts of projects—and even for delivering birthday presents.
Future: The Ultimate Upgrade
The long-term plan for this truck is an intensive, well-thought-out project. The first step will be to paint it silver, which means covering up or replacing the historic graphics. The new paint will come after a massive drivetrain upgrade: a 12-valve Cummins engine, modern dually axles, and a 6-speed manual transmission.
Everything has been purchased to do this incredible upgrade, aside from the one elusive thing in life that no one can control: time.
