      The Story

This truck comes from our personal Tin Grille Hunters collection. We purchased it in 2018, but the last time it had enjoyed the open road before then was back in 1999. It spent nearly two decades waiting to be brought back to life.

Somewhere down the line of ownership, a stout RV 440 V8 was installed. We only know this because of a handwritten note we found in the glove box describing which spark plugs to use—a perfect little piece of history that tells you about the truck's past.

We set this truck up to be our main trailer hauler. It's equipped with a B&W turnover ball in the bed and a 14,000 lb B&W receiver hitch in the rear. To install the hitch properly, we removed an old aftermarket secondary gas tank, which is long gone.

Bringing It Back to the Road

Over the past four years, we've used this truck off and on, and we've gone through it to address the items that needed attention. We do our best to go through these trucks and represent them correctly. Here's a list of what we've done:

      • Engine & Carb: Replaced the original carb with a rebuilt Edelbrock, adding a 2-inch Edelbrock carb spacer for better performance. Installed new spark plugs.
      • Exhaust: To let that 440 breathe, we installed a 3-inch Magnaflow exhaust that exits just in front of the passenger rear tires. It lets you know it's ready to go.
      • Transmission: Serviced the transmission and installed a Mopar deep transmission pan for extra fluid capacity.
      • Gaskets: Both the valve covers and the transmission pan have premium Moroso reusable gaskets.
      • Ignition: Installed a new ballast resistor, ignition module, and ignition switch. We also replaced the ignition lock cylinder and had it keyed to match the door locks.
      • Brakes: The front has new pads and rotors.
      • Fuel System: We cleaned out the gas tank and replaced the float on the sending unit, which now works as it should.
      • Lights & Lenses: Installed new LED bulbs in the instrument cluster and the cab lights for better visibility. We also replaced the old cab light lenses with new Mopar lenses.

      An Honest Assessment

We believe in being upfront about every truck we sell. Here is the current condition:

      • Body: The truck is very solid overall. It does have some minor rust in spots as shown in the pictures. The driver’s floorboard has some minor pinholes in it near the gas pedal. I also have brand-new, uninstalled carpet for the cab that will be included with the sale. The missing trim on the driver's fender is waiting on new clips to arrive in the mail and will be installed before pickup.
      • A/C: The factory A/C system is all there but remains untested. The compressor spins freely by hand, and everything is currently hooked up, but we have not tried to pull a vacuum on the system.
      • Tires: The tires are old. The front tires show some alignment wear and will need to be replaced.
      • Odometer: The odometer shows its current reading, but due to the age of the vehicle, we have no way of certifying if this is accurate or has been rolled over. The official paperwork will reflect "exempt" for the odometer reading.

A Note on Drivability: Does this mean we would recommend driving it across the country? No. We do not recommend driving any vehicle of this age across the country due to old belts, hoses, and any other unknowns that could pop up. Does this mean we wouldn't jump in it ourselves and drive it? No, we have done our best to make it a reliable driver.

About Us: The Tin Grille Hunters

We are avid Dodge collectors. The passion started at a young age for Zac; later on in life for Rod. Some of Zac’s personal collection dates to when his grandma purchased the collections original tin grille—a 1978 Dodge—from Hinkley Dodge in Salt Lake City, and it's still in the collection today.

The personal collection grows each year as we're always on the hunt to find trucks that need to be rescued. We know these trucks inside and out and have spent countless hours working on them, bringing them back to their former glory or even an improved former glory.

Sometimes, we offer trucks from our collection when the time has come for them to find a new home. We use our dealership (Utah Dealer #8601) to market these trucks just for the ease of the transaction. Feel free to like and follow us as we add more to the collection and offer more trucks to find new homes like yours.
