          The Story

This truck is a survivor in the truest sense. We rescued it in 2018 from a Copart auction in the Bay Area, where it was listed as a "donated vehicle." This designation meant it was on a fast track to being crushed and lost forever. We knew we had to step in.

Getting it home was an adventure in itself. The truck was so substantial it barely fit on the U-Haul trailer we brought for it—a testament to the real steel these classic Dodges were built with. We have a photo of that moment, a perfect reminder of the day this truck was saved from the brink.

          Under the Hood

          Engine: 360 small block V8

          Transmission: 727 automatic transmission

          Carburetor: Factory 2-barrel Holley carburetor

This truck is powered by the legendary 360 small block, paired with the famously durable 727 automatic transmission. The factory Holley carburetor keeps the fuel delivery simple and reliable, just as Dodge intended. The factory air conditioning system has been thoughtfully retrofitted to the more modern R134a refrigerant.

          Exterior

The truck presents honestly, with the running boards removed for a cleaner, more streamlined look. It has minimal rust for its age, a testament to its California history. There is some body damage below the lower molding on the driver's rear corner of the cab, a battle scar from its previous life that tells part of its story.

          Interior

The interior features a unique custom rear bench seat, offering more passenger room than a standard cab. For the purists, the original factory fold-down jump seats are still present, providing a glimpse into the truck's original configuration.

          An Honest Assessment

We believe in transparency. This truck is a solid, running, and driving piece of Dodge history that was saved from the crusher. It’s a fantastic starting point for a full restoration or can be enjoyed as-is, with its history and character proudly on display. The body damage is present, as shown in the pictures, but the truck is structurally sound.

A Note on Drivability: We have done our best to make this truck a reliable driver. However, as with any vehicle of this age, we do not recommend driving it across the country without a thorough inspection of all wear items like belts and hoses.

          A Professional and Personal Viewing

To ensure a professional and focused experience for every potential new owner, all viewings are held exclusively at our licensed dealership, Johnson Family Motors.

This is a strictly by-appointment-only process.

The truck is not kept on a public lot. We bring it to the dealership from a private, secure location specifically for your scheduled viewing. This allows us to have a personal, one-on-one conversation about this truck and prevents any interruptions.

For this reason, we cannot accommodate casual drop-ins. We appreciate your understanding and respect for this process, which allows us to provide a proper one-on-one experience for serious buyers.

About Us: The Tin Grille Hunters

We are avid Dodge collectors. The passion started at a young age for Zac; later on in life for Rod. Some of Zac’s personal collection dates to when his grandma purchased the collections original tin grille—a 1978 Dodge—from Hinkley Dodge in Salt Lake City, and it's still in the collection today.

The personal collection grows each year as we're always on the hunt to find trucks that need to be rescued. We know these trucks inside and out and have spent countless hours working on them, bringing them back to their former glory or even an improved former glory.

Sometimes, we offer trucks from our collection when the time has come for them to find a new home. We use our dealership (Utah Dealer #8601) to market these trucks just for the ease of the transaction. Feel free to like and follow us as we add more to the collection and offer more trucks to find new homes like yours.

This vehicle is sold through Johnson Family Motors, Utah Auto Dealer #8601.

All viewings are held at the dealership and are scheduled by appointment only.
